Internationally recognized filmmaker Deanna Morse will premiere her
new DVD “Wish you were here” and discuss her experimental filmmaking
approach, Friday, August 5, 7 p.m. at the Cook Auditorium, Grand
Rapids Art Museum. All proceeds from sales from these DVDs are donated
to the Dirk Koning Film/Video Scholarship at Grand Valley, supporting
students who plan to make media for the social good.
The event is free to museum members, or $5 for individual
tickets which includes admission to the Museum and galleries. There
will be a reception and a cash bar following the screening and discussion.
“Wish you were here” is a collection of video postcards,
affectionate explorations of place, both natural and architectural.
Light sweeps across a lawn, across tiles, and flowers erupt in a riot
of color. These six video postcards are from Spain, Hot Springs
National Park, Porcupine Mountains State Park, Ukraine, and Grand Rapids.
Morse’s independent film work has been screened internationally,
broadcast on Sesame Street, and is represented in permanent
collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She is a
professor of Film/Video in the School of Communications at Grand
Valley. Her previous Addy award winning DVD, “Move Click Move,” is
used extensively in schools and animation workshops.
