Just in time for the Memorial Day weekend, Grand Valley’s Veterans
History Project will be spotlighted on iTunes U.
Grand Valley State University on iTunes U features 34 interviews
selected from more than 1,000 in the ongoing project by Grand Valley’s
Department of History, under the direction of Professor James Smither,
in conjunction with the Library of Congress.
The Library of Congress established the Veterans History Project
in 2001 to collect and preserve memories and documents from U.S. war
veterans for future generations. In 2006 Grand Valley’s Veterans
History Project was established to serve as an archiving and
collecting partner with the LOC. All interviews are conducted
following LOC procedures and are archived both in the Digital
Collections of Grand Valley’s library and in the Library of Congress.
Grand Valley’s project also includes partnerships that have
produced several documentary films, educational outreach programs and
events with area preservation groups and historical societies.
