GVSU co-hosts regional Classical Association

Grand Valley State University and Calvin College will co-host the 107th Annual Meeting of the Classical Association of the Middle West and South, the largest regional professional association of its kind in North America, April 6-9.

Between 400-500 Classics professionals are expected to attend the four-day event, which includes two paper sessions Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m.-noon, at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, Grand Rapids. Free and open to the public, the paper sessions will be of broad interest to all educators who teach English or History/Social Studies, both of which have considerable Greco-Roman components. Middle school and high school educators are welcome, as well as the general public interested in or curious about classical antiquity.

Registration for the full schedule of events is open to the public for the duration of the conference or on a daily basis. Continuing Education Units are available for educators. For more information visit www.camws.org, or contact Peter Anderson, associate professor of Classics, at (616) 331-3611.

Participants can also catch a performance of "The Braggart Soldier," a main-stage production of Theatre at Grand Valley. The play is a modern translation of Plautus’ Roman comedy, "Miles Glorius." For performance schedule and ticket information, visit www.gvsu.edu/theatre.
