Students from Grand Valley will be joining students from other
Michigan public universities to rally support for the allocation of
more funding for higher education on Thursday, March 24, in Lansing,
from noon-3 p.m.
The Student Association of Michigan, an advocacy group for
Michigan’s students of higher education, and the student governments
at each public university are hosting the rally, “Lansing Blitz.”
Students will rally on the Capitol steps, visit legislators, and be
recognized in both the Michigan House and Senate sessions to send a
message to their elected leaders. According to the Facebook event page, more than 1,000
students plan on attending.
“There is growing student frustration with the lack of investment
in higher education,” said Trevor Tenbrink, Grand Valley Student
Senate vice president of political affairs. “The Blitz will be a
fantastic opportunity for Grand Valley students to voice their
opinions regarding Gov. Snyder’s proposed budget cuts and express
their disappointment.”
