Hauenstein Center hosts 'JFK through Jackie's Eyes'

Grand Valley State University’s Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies is hosting an expert on former president John F. Kennedy, who will shed light on one of the most glamorous and storied couples to ever live in the White House.

Jason Duncan, an Aquinas College historian, will speak about the highlights of Jacqueline Kennedy’s memories of her life with JFK in his presentation of “JFK through Jackie’s Eyes.” He’ll also detail what she chose to reveal and what to keep secret during a series of interviews with Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. just after her husband’s death.

Duncan’s presentation will be held on Tuesday, November 22 at 7 p.m. at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, 300 Pearl Street NW, Grand Rapids. Click here to RSVP to the event.

“Why does the Kennedy mystique endure?” asked Gleaves Whitney, director of the Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies. “Historian Jason Duncan will get beneath the hype and explore that question by using the newly released interviews of Jacqueline Kennedy as a springboard. Since he is writing a major biography of our 35th president, his talk will sharpen our understanding of Kennedy through the most wide-ranging comments his wife ever made about him and their life together.”

Duncan’s new book, “John F. Kennedy: The Burdens of Cold War Liberalism,” will be published in 2012.
