Menon named new CLAS associate dean

Shaily Menon, professor of biology, has been selected as the new College of Liberal Arts & Sciences associate dean of Professional Development and Administration.

CLAS Dean Fred Antczak said Menon has been awarded external grants with great consistency over the last 27 years for a total of more than $650,000.

“These awards show a pattern of internal and external partnerships with great range,” said Antczak. “Her extensive publications and presentations also show us a scholar committed to the wider scholarly conversation and to working with students toward a scholarly product.”

Antczak also acknowledged Menon as a recent recipient of the university’s service award, a longtime champion of diversity, a trained mediator, a champion of professional development for both the faculty and staff, and a seeker after the big picture in her research, her classroom, and her college.

The 19 members of the AD Search Committee selected Menon from a pool of very talented applicants with proven leadership and experience. She is filling the position previously held by Jann Joseph, who accepted a position as the dean of the College of Education at Eastern Michigan University, starting July 1.
