New athletics administrator addresses luncheon crowd

Keri Becker, new associate athletic director/senior woman administrator, told a luncheon crowd that in her short 45-day tenure on campus she likes what she sees.

Becker gave the keynote address at the annual Fall Welcome, hosted by the Women’s Commission September 22 in the Kirkhof Center.

“I’m still in the learning phase but I’m going to give you my take on Grand Valley from what I’ve seen in 45 days,” Becker said. “I love it, not because of what it is, but what it can be.”

Becker began working at Grand Valley in early August. She had served as head softball coach and senior woman administrator at Ferris State University.

She suggested that Grand Valley can shape its next 50 years by working closely with advocacy groups like the Women’s Commission. “We need to push the limits and include other groups in the conversation — LGBT, people of color, people with disabilities,” Becker said.
