President Haas and his wife, Marcia, greeted students and parents while handing out ice cream near Kleiner Commons Wednesday.
Board Chair Noreen Myers and Trustee Kate Pew Wolters helped students move into VanSteeland Living Center.
More than 5,400 students are moving into living centers this week on the Allendale and Pew Grand Rapids campuses.
Grand Valley students, faculty and staff will mark the beginning of the academic year Friday, August 26, when President Haas will give his Opening Address to faculty and staff at 10 a.m. in the Louis Armstrong Theatre in the Performing Arts Center on the Allendale Campus.
Convocation will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Fieldhouse Arena, where President Haas, Provost Gayle Davis, Faculty Senate Chair Figen Mekik and Student Senate President Natalie Cleary will give remarks.
The all-campus picnic lunch for students, faculty and staff will be served from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in parking lot C, adjacent to the Fieldhouse.
