As Grand Valley State University celebrates its 50th anniversary,
the 2011 Michigan Science Olympiad Region 12 Tournament at Grand
Valley is celebrating the International Year of Chemistry. At this
year’s Science Olympiad competition, five chemistry related events
will be highlighted. The events include Can’t Judge a Powder,
Chemistry Lab, Crime Busters, Forensics and Protein Modeling.
Middle and high school students from 73 schools in Kent and
Ottawa counties are preparing to show off their science and
mathematics skills. This is Grand Valley’s 27th year hosting the
regional tournament, which consists of events in biology, chemistry,
physics, earth science, computers and technology. These events are a
mixture of academic, engineering and design challenges.

Winners advance to the state tournament held Saturday, April 30,
at Michigan State University.
