Two students at Grand Valley have received Fulbright scholarships
to serve as teaching assistants overseas. Another student was named an alternate.
Rikki Brown, of West Olive, and Sean Duffie, of Brighton, earned
Student Fulbright Scholarships and will teach English classes in
Russia and Spain, respectively. Shaynon Munn of Grand Rapids was named
an alternate and could teach classes in Rwanda.
The Student Fulbright Program is sponsored by the U.S.
Department of State. The Fulbright Teaching Assistantships program is
highly competitive as only 68 national grants were awarded to students
to teach in Spain, 20 for Russia and two for Rwanda.
Brown is a Russian studies major and a Frederik Meijer Honors
College student. After fulfilling her Fulbright year, Brown will
attend Georgetown University to pursue a master's degree.
Duffie is a double major in Spanish-secondary education and
group social sciences. Following his Fulbright year, he plans to teach
at the secondary level.
