High school and community college students will display their
sustainable ideas and business plans at Grand Valley State
University’s Michigan Alternative and Renewable Energy Center’s first
annual Renewable Energy and Technology Science Fair (RE-Fair).
Students will share their ideas with community members and judges, and
will have the chance to win cash prizes.
Projects will be divided into two categories, renewable energy
and sustainability. Community members representing entrepreneurship,
energy and business will serve as judges.
RE-Fair
Monday, May 23
MAREC, 200 Viridian Dr.,
Muskegon
Judging will take place in the morning; the event will
be open to the public from 1-3 p.m.
Kirk Wyers, director of Career and Technical Education in
Newaygo County, will be speaking from noon-1 p.m. about SERGIL
(Students Effectively Reducing Glass In Landfills), a program
developed by students.
“Taking part in RE-Fair offers many benefits,” said Kim Walton,
MAREC program coordinator. “The incentive of a friendly competition
has been shown to promote deeper learning as students see the value of
science and technology in their lives. They’ll also learn through the
challenge of integrating science and business, and making a case for
their project.”
