Grand Valley is ranked within the top 10 of institutions its size
in terms of the number of students who study abroad.
The Institute of International Education released statistics
November 14 on international students studying in the U.S. and
Americans who participate in study abroad programs. Grand Valley was
ranked 10th among master’s degree-granting institutions, with 658
students who studied abroad in 2009-2010, the latest reporting year
available. Last year, Grand Valley was ranked 11th.
Grand Valley offers more than 4,000 study abroad opportunities
for students. Top destinations are Spain, United Kingdom, Italy,
Australia and China. Mark Schaub, executive director of Grand Valley’s
Padnos International Center, said another trend is the number of
students going to sub-Saharan Africa. In 2010-2011, 71 GVSU students
traveled there.
