Van Orsdel appointed to Library of Michigan Board

Gov. Rick Snyder has appointed Lee Van Orsdel, dean of university libraries at Grand Valley, to the Library of Michigan Board of Trustees.

Van Orsdel, at Grand Valley since 2005, has more than 30 years library career experience. She will represent librarians from a college or university library and replaces Michael Smith. The appointment, effective immediately, is a three-year term expiring Oct. 1, 2014,

The board makes recommendations to the Michigan Department of Education regarding library services, policies and procedures of the Library of Michigan. The board’s goals include research services for all state government agencies; identifying and keeping accessible the published record of the state; and by providing statewide library services to support and enhance the essential services provided by libraries of all types for all Michigan residents.
