A nursing leader and entrepreneur in the field of transformative patient care will give the Frederik Meijer Lecture in early November at Grand Valley.
Bonnie Wesorick, founder and chair emerita of the Clinical Practice Model Resource Center in Grand Rapids, will present “Leading Health Care Transformation for Those Who Give and Receive Care” on Monday, November 7 at 7 p.m. in the Eberhard Center.
The lecture and reception are free and open to the public. The lecture series, sponsored by Grand Valley’s Frederik Meijer Honors College, was established to provide local and national presentations that focus on issues of liberal education as it applies to leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Wesorick will discuss her experience as a leader in the development of interprofessional patient care using evidence-based tools and resources that have revolutionized health care. The Kirkhof College of Nursing launched a campaign in 2009 for the Wesorick Center for Health Care Transformation to be a center of excellence within the college.
The Wesorick Center will help address urgent issues in health care, including the need for patient-centered care, interprofessional teamwork, quality and safety, through research and teaching.
“It is my vision that the impact of the center’s research and scholarly work will improve every aspect of health care, wherever the hands of those who give and receive care meet,” Wesorick said. One week prior to her lecture, Wesorick will receive a lifetime achievement award from the honor society of nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International.
Wesorick is a former KCON faculty member who has written many books and articles related to evidence-based health care. The Clinical Practice Model Resource Center is a business unit of Elsevier, a company based in the Netherlands, which is among the leading publishers of science and health information.
