Battle of the Valleys competition will benefit local nonprofit
For the 10th year in a row, Grand Valley State University will
compete with Saginaw Valley State University to raise the most
donations for a selected charity. Donations from this year’s weeklong
battle will be donated to the Mental Health Foundation of West
Michigan, an organization that aims to create and sustain a community
which supports and understands people with mental illness.
The battle will kick-off with a 5K run/walk on Saturday,
November 3, with events and fundraisers running through November 11.
The winner will be announced at halftime during the Grand Valley vs.
Saginaw Valley football game at Saginaw Valley on Saturday, November
10.
Sponsored by Grand Valley’s Student Senate, Battle of the
Valleys has raised more than $100,000 for local charities since the
event began in 2003. The campus tradition aims to develop school pride
and bring together students to support a charitable cause.
Other ways to donate include purchasing a Battle of the Valleys
T-shirt for $10 in the Kirkhof Center on the Allendale Campus from
November 6-9, and donating a dollar while purchasing a meal at any
on-campus food location.
