Campus Dining celebrates 25 years

In celebration of 25 years on campus, Campus Dining created its first endowed scholarship that will be awarded to one student each year.

Tom Minor, general manager of Campus Dining, said he wanted to do something special to recognize the office’s anniversary. Campus Dining is managed by ARAMARK, a global company that specializes in dining services for colleges and universities. It is the university’s largest employer, with more than 800 student employees this year.

The first scholarship recipient is Judy Ingles, a senior biomedical sciences major from Saint Claire Shores. She has been a Campus Dining employee for more than three years and currently serves as a student manager for Classic Fair Catering. She was recognized by President Thomas J. Haas at a football game November 3.

“We’re delighted Judy was awarded the scholarship,” Minor said. “She’s been with us for years and does a really great job.”

The scholarship was established for $1,500, but the initial award is $2,500 because of Campus Dining’s anniversary. Students interested in applying for the annual scholarship must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75. Minor said preference is given to students who have worked with Campus Dining for two semesters. Recipients are chosen by representatives from Career Services and Hospitality and Tourism Management offices.

Ingles said she plans to use her scholarship for graduate school applications. “I feel extremely lucky and fortunate,” she said.
