Experts present entrepreneurship to nonprofit organizations

Two experts in entrepreneurship will help nonprofit managers better understand how to incorporate the tools of starting a new business into their nonprofit organization at an event hosted by the Johnson Center for Philanthropy.

Part of the Brown Bag Lunch and Learn Series, “Entrepreneuring in the Nonprofit World” will be held from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., October 31, at the Johnson Center in the Bicycle Factory.

The program will help nonprofit managers who are looking to start a new program, service delivery model, or revenue stream, while emphasizing the importance of being entrepreneurial. 

Presenters at the event are J. Kevin McCurren, executive director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Seidman College of Business and Steve Frazee, local entrepreneur and consultant. 

McCurren’s responsibilities include technology transfer for the university and the Family Owned Business Institute. McCurren has more than 25 years of combined corporate and entrepreneurial experience. 

Frazee founded TEDx Grand Rapids in 2010 and is working on a new project, HUB Grand Rapids, which is intended to be the epicenter of impact investing and for-purpose business in the region. 

The event is free and open to the public. Participants should bring their own lunch. 

The Brown Bag Lunch and Learn Series is a partnership between the School of Public, Nonprofit and Health Administration and the Johnson Center for Philanthropy that serves as a resource to the nonprofit community and provides a learning opportunity for students, faculty and practitioners. A variety of timely and relevant topics are presented throughout the academic year.
