Facilities Services is launching a project this week to replace trees along Campus Drive and near several campus buildings.

The project will save the university costs required to maintain and treat the trees and will be completed over the next several years, said Tim Thimmesch, associate vice president for Facilities Services.

“The current trees aren’t doing well in clay soil and road salt affects them, so they are stunted and won’t grow into the type of tree as originally desired,” said Thimmesch. “The new trees will be able to handle these conditions better.”

During the week of December 17, Facilities staff members will remove more than 20 trees along Campus Drive that will be replaced in January or February. Some trees along the west side of the Student Services Building and Henry Hall will be replaced as well.

The trees that are being removed will be recycled by a third party landscape company, Thimmesch said.
