Officials from the U.S. Department of Education will join leaders from Grand Valley State University’s Johnson Center for Philanthropy to celebrate community efforts to improve schools in the Grand Rapids area.
The event, “Philanthropy, Faith, and Education Community Convening,” will be held Friday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Loosemore Auditorium on Grand Valley’s Pew Grand Rapids Campus.
Twenty different community collaborations will be featured, including work in housing, education, and health care, all in support of stronger communities and better educational outcomes.
Presentations by nonprofit leaders will accompany poster presentations and discussions about efforts to improve education at Grand Rapids schools. The presentations will focus on philanthropic, faith-based, and educational partnerships and the lessons learned from these initiatives.
A discussion of the impact of the programs will be presented by the Kent County Family and Children’s Coordinating Council members and the Johnson Center for Philanthropy, who assisted the nonprofits with the development of their programs.
The event will show how Grand Valley and greater Grand Rapids community partnerships are changing the landscape of education through evaluation and real-time data sharing.
