Grand Valley State University will host a panel that will explore and debate the issues on voters’ minds a week before Barack Obama and Mitt Romney face off in the general election on November 6.
“Election 2012: A Watershed in American History?” will be presented by Grand Valley’s Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies, and will include debate and opinions from Grand Valley experts.

“Whatever the breadth and depth of their disagreements,” said Gleaves Whitney, director of the Hauenstein Center, “President Obama and Governor Romney agree: the presidential election in 2012 gives voters a clear choice between two very different philosophies and policy approaches to a host of challenges facing the U.S. Whether the debate is over how to handle staggering debts, the anemic economy, or Benghazi and other foreign hot spots, the candidates present vastly different game plans for making America safer and moving the economy forward.
Experts who will explore and debate issues surrounding the election include:
— Paul Isely, economics department chair, Grand Valley
— Erika King, professor of political science, Grand Valley
— Matt McLogan, vice president for university relations, Grand Valley
— Kevin den Dulk, Paul B. Henry Chair and director of the Henry Institute at Calvin College
Presidential scholar and director of the Hauenstein Center Gleaves Whitney will moderate and add historic perspective to the event.
