Michigan’s global exports have ranked the state in the top 10
nationwide over the past two years, and local businesses are
discovering strong sales opportunities around the world.
“World Trade Week West Michigan Business Conference 2012 —
Achieving Export Growth” will be held May 8 at Grand Valley State
University, in partnership with the West Michigan community. The
conference features experts who will talk about strategies,
opportunities and resources available to help businesses increase
international sales from those new to export to the experienced.
Keynote speaker John Hendrickson, executive vice president of
Global Operations and Supply Chain at Perrigo, will speak on “Doing
Business with Overseas Partners: The Do’s and Don’ts.”

A panel discussion will focus on working in the Korean market
and how to take advantage of the newly implemented Free Trade
Agreement. Panelists include David Hemmings, president of PRA Global;
Young Oh, U.S. Commercial Service; and Darwin Rader, international
sales manager at Zeeland Farm Services.
Breakout sessions will cover topics like international disputes
and pitfalls, tax planning for experienced exporters and export
documentation for those just getting started.
