Johnson Center workshop helps small nonprofit fundraisers

Several dozen leaders of nonprofit organizations from across the state of Michigan are headed to Grand Rapids on February 9 and 10 to take part in a workshop being held by Grand Valley State University’s Johnson Center for Philanthropy.

‘Fundraising for Small Nonprofits’ will be led by Kim Klein, an internationally known trainer who has worked in all aspects of fundraising.

Klein will teach participants to build a convincing case for financial support and create a fundraising process that works, but is attainable with limited resources.

“Kim is nationally known for her work with grassroots and smaller nonprofit organizations,” said Heather Carpenter, a professor in Grand Valley’s School of Public, Nonprofit and Health Administration. “She’s always very in tune with what’s happening in the nonprofit sector. She’s a dynamic speaker who gives lots of good examples and relates to the topic at hand with real-life, practical applications.”

Klein is best known for adapting traditional fundraising techniques, particularly major donor campaigns, to the needs of organizations with small budgets working for social justice. She is also the author of five books including her most recent, ‘Reliable Fundraising in Unreliable Times.’ Her text, ‘Fundraising for Social Change,’ currently in its fifth edition, is widely used in the field and in university degree programs.

She also wrote ‘Fundraising for the Long Haul,’ ‘Ask and You Shall Receive,’ and ‘Fundraising in Times of Crisis,’ which was a runner-up for the Terry McAdam Book Award.

This particular event is sold out, but you can register for future Johnson Center events at events.johnsoncenter.org
