Staff members from University Libraries raised $950 for Access of West Michigan during the organization's annual Hunger Walk in early May.

Hazel McClure, liaison librarian for liberal arts programs, said it was the first group service project for library staff members. Thirteen people participated in the walk, which raised money for area food pantries and other programs.

“The money we raised was sponsored in large part by our colleagues in the library,” McClure said.

Library staff members contacted Grand Valley’s Community Service Learning Center, looking for help to identify a large group project. Jeff Mutch, CSLC coordinator, said the center serves as a clearinghouse for resources related to volunteering and service learning.

“We are more than happy to work with any individuals or groups at Grand Valley who are looking to get involved in the community and help identify and connect them to meaningful service opportunities,” he said.
