Leaders at Grand Valley note with sadness the passing of Elizabeth
M. Gillett, who died on May 3 at age 89.
Betty Gillett was a longtime supporter of Grand Valley and a
member of the Gillett Society, which is named after her late husband,
Richard M. Gillett. Together they helped launch the university with
other community leaders.
“The university owes its success to visionary leaders like Betty
and Dick Gillett, who gave so much of their time and support to
sustain Grand Valley over the years,” said President Thomas J. Haas.
“We wouldn’t be where we are today without their guidance and passion
for West Michigan and education.”
Survivors include her son, Rick Gillett, his wife Linda and
several grandchildren.
