Men to wear high heels to raise awareness of sexual violence

Men are encourage to wear high heel shoes at an event to raise awareness of rape, sexual assault and gender violence.

“Walk A Mile In Her Shoes” is set for Monday, October 29, at 6 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center, room 2250. It is sponsored by the Inter Fraternity Council, Women’s Center and Campus Violence Prevention Team.

Participants are invited to walk in high heels to challenge social norms regarding gender identity. The campus community is invited to participate.

Walk A Mile In Her Shoes is a national campaign that started in 2001 to increase men’s understanding of sexual violence. This is the second year that Grand Valley is hosting the event.

The keynote speaker will be MarcQus Wright, assistant director of academic and student support; Wright also serves as advisor to GVSU’s Men’s Group.

Although the event is free, donations will be accepted. Proceeds will benefit Grand Valley’s Rape Aggression Defense Program.
