Record number of international students on campus
There is a record number of international students studying at
Grand Valley this year.
Kate Stoetzner, director of international student and scholar
services for Padnos International Center, said there are 369 students
on campus, compared to last year’s total of 317.
“More students are choosing Grand Valley because of the
high-quality academic programs,” Stoetzner said. “International
students enjoy the amount of academic opportunities available in and
out of the classroom.”
Among the students is Moeen Ahmed Farasat from Lahore, Pakistan,
who is part of the U.S. Department of State’s Global Undergraduate
Exchange Program in Pakistan (Global UGRAD-Pakistan).
Farasat is majoring in computer science; he completed two years
of college education in Pakistan.
“I applied for the exchange program because I really wanted to
have the experience of studying abroad and meeting new people and
visiting new places,” Farasat said. “I was placed here but I love
being here.”
Global UGRAD-Pakistan students like Farasat, are ambassadors for
Pakistan. Through the program, Pakistani students learn U.S.-based
training and experience in leadership, community engagement, and
diverse perspective of their professional fields.
