Students studying in Costa Rica safe after earthquake

Six Grand Valley students who are participating in a study abroad program in Costa Rica have reported they are safe following an earthquake that hit the country's central region February 13.

Meaghann Myers-Smith, study abroad advisor for Padnos International Center, said the students are staying in San José, the capital of Costa Rica, or a close suburb. The earthquake that hit Costa Rica was about 46 miles away from San José.

Myers-Smith said the students are participating in programs led by study abroad providers, not Grand Valley faculty-led programs.
