Grand Valley's Alumni Association will honor a former Michigan State trooper and an advocate for people with disabilities for their service and contributions during an event on Saturday, September 21.

Christopher Lewis, ’92, will receive the Alumni Service Award for his contributions to the association as a board member, volunteer service, and his continued support of the Football Alumni Chapter. Linh Huynh, ’12, will receive the Young Alumni Award for her advocacy efforts for people with disabilities throughout Michigan.

Lewis played football for the Lakers and graduated from Grand Valley with a degree in criminal justice in 1992. He then earned a law degree from Cooley Law School. Lewis worked for the Michigan Department of State Police from 1979 until his retirement in 2007. He is currently the human resources manager at Ryder Transportation and Logistics in Lansing.

Huynh graduated from Grand Valley in 2012 with a degree in psychology. She is a freelance graphic designer, and is pursuing a master’s degree at Western Michigan University. She was named Ms. Wheelchair Michigan 2013. The title allows her to expand awareness of disability advocacy throughout the state.

Lewis and Huynh will be honored during a luncheon at the Alumni House, and recognized on the scoreboard during that evening’s football game against Tiffin University.
