Grand Valley alumnus Steven Rinella will be among the celebrities on site for the Cabela’s opening of their new store in Grandville this week. The host of "MeatEater," on the Sportsman Channel, will be at the store Thursday, March 21, from 11 a.m.–2 p.m.

Rinella, a Twin Lake native, graduated from Grand Valley in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in English, Language and Literature. He then headed to Montana to build a career as an outdoor and adventure travel writer. Since then, Rinella has starred in a Travel Channel series, “The Wild Within,” published several books, including A Scavenger’s Guide to Haute Cuisine, and written for many diverse publications including the New York Times, Outside, Men’s Journal, Field and Stream, Glamour and O, the Oprah Magazine.

Since his childhood days hunting with his father and brother, Rinella has been what he calls “an ethical hunter and fisherman” in that he always cooks and eats what he kills, from dear heart to electric eel.

Learn more about Rinella in a feature story in the spring 2011 issue of Grand Valley Magazine.
