Culture, will focus on public art.
Code GR will discuss public art

Community leaders from the worlds of art and law will discuss public art during an event hosted by Brooks College's Office of Public Culture, ArtServe Michigan and Lawyers for a Creative Economy.
“Code GR: From Public to Private and Back Again” is set for Thursday, October 24, at 7 p.m. at the Federal Building, 17 Pearl St. in Grand Rapids.
Paul Wittenbraker, associate professor of art and design, said panelists will discuss secondary uses of Alexander Calder’s “La Grande Vitesse”, including a recent ArtPrize entry. Panelists will address intellectual property and copyright issues and how these issues highlight the intersection of public and private domains.
Panelists include Tom Williams, attorney; Kendal Henry, artist and curator; and Jenny Mikulay, professor at Alverno College. Anna Campbell, GVSU associate professor of art and design, will serve as moderator.

• November 1, 5 p.m.: “Accelerationsim” is a public lecture on
philosophy, art and politics by Steven Shaviro, from Wayne State
University. The lecture will be in Kennedy Hall, room 324. Visit the
