Grand Valley received the MVP Award from Michigan Blood for having
the largest contribution and highest increase of participation during
the College Care Challenge, which ran from March-April.
The annual initiative challenges West Michigan colleges and
universities to have the highest percentage of the student population
donate blood. The drives were coordinated by the Community Service
Learning Center in Student Life at Grand Valley.
Jeff Mutch, coordinator of the CSLC, said nearly 300 individuals
gave blood, which increased participation by 163 percent from last
year. The university hosted 11 blood drives on the Allendale and Pew
Grand Rapids campuses during the challenge.
During the 2012-2013 academic year, Grand Valley hosted 44 blood
drives with Michigan Blood. The CSLC also partnered with American Red
Cross to host drives throughout the year.
