Grand Valley to host award-winning environmental documentary
The Sustainable Community Development Initiative will host a
screening of an “eco-docu-comedy” about a group that takes a trip
across the country to raise awareness about waste and its impact on
the environment.
“YERT: Your Environmental Road Trip” will be shown on Monday,
March 11, from 5-8 p.m. in the Pere Marquette Room of the Kirkhof
Center. The documentary’s producer, Mark Dixon, will be at the event
to answer questions and discuss the film.
The award-winning documentary follows three friends and their
garbage as they take a one-year road trip across all 50 states. Along
the way, the group meets people who are tackling some of the world’s
greatest environmental crises and challenges. The film features
well-known environmental advocates, including Bill McKibben, an
environmental and climate change writer, educator and activist, who
visited Grand Valley last September.
The film has been an official selection in 26 film festivals,
including the Planet in Focus International Film Festival, Heartland
Film Festival and Environmental Film Festival at Yale, and has been
named Best Documentary Feature, Audience Award Winner, and Best
Environmental Film at festivals across the world. The documentary
stars Dixon, Julie Dingman Evans and Ben Evans.
The event is approved for LIB 100 and 201 classes.
