Grand Valley's Johnson Center supports #GivingTuesday tradition

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are great days to snag deals on holiday shopping, but #GivingTuesday is a day when you can focus on giving and service to others. 

#GivingTuesday is an annual tradition that encourages volunteerism and support of your favorite charity. Last year’s inaugural efforts nationwide resulted in a 50 percent increase in online giving on that day over the previous year. 

This year’s #GivingTuesday is December 3, and Grand Valley’s Johnson Center for Philanthropy is working to inspire people to give back in new ways. Students, faculty and staff members are encouraged to participate by hosting a fundraising activity, encouraging volunteerism on campus, or simply donating to a favorite charity.

Staff members and students at the Johnson Center for Philanthropy are planning to conduct a food drive for the Grand Valley student food pantry and to give out information about organ donation. One of the center’s staff, TJ Maciak, has had two kidney transplants. His colleagues are taking this opportunity to encourage others to think about how they might help someone by becoming an organ, eye, or tissue donor.
