Homecoming 2013 inspired by classic film

The Wizard will come to the Valley for Homecoming 2013.

With the theme "There's No Place Like the Valley," Homecoming will put a new twist on the classic film, "The Wizard of Oz."

Events will run Friday and Saturday, October 18-19 and are open to students, faculty and staff members, and community members.

The highlights of Saturday’s events include the Laker football game at 7 p.m. against Northern Michigan University.  

Other events that will take place Saturday include the following:

•  Laker Homecoming 5K Run/Walk: Run/walk will begin at 9 a.m. with a Kids Fun Run at 10 a.m. at the Kelly Family Sports Center. For more information call Nick Polk at (616) 331-3360.

•  Pancake Breakfast: Refuel after the race at the annual Pancake Breakfast at 10 a.m. on the basketball courts near the Kelly Family Sports Center. are $5 for adults, $3 for children 4-12.

•  Alumni and Friends Tailgate: Visit campus organizations and take your picture with Dorthy and the gang on the outdoor basketball courts near the Kelly Family Sports Center from 4 to 6:45 p.m. 

• Volleyball to host Wayne State on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 19 at 4 p.m.

•  Soccer to host Findlay on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
