More than 350 volunteers from Grand Valley are expected to
participate in the nation’s largest day of community service on
October 26.
Sponsored by the Community Service Learning Center, Make a
Difference Day begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Grand River Room of the
Kirkhof Center on the Allendale Campus.
Before volunteers go to their service projects, Jenny Jordan,
development coordinator for Kid’s Food Basket and a Grand Valley
alumna, will provide a kick-off speech. Participants will then be
bused to various sites throughout the greater Grand Rapids area to
work on different community service projects until 3 p.m.
Last year, more than 300 Grand Valley volunteers served various
area agencies for the day. Volunteers will have the opportunity to
work with one of many different causes, from mentoring youth, to
working with senior citizens to combating hunger issues.
The national day of volunteering, promoted by USA WEEKEND
Magazine and Points of Light, has taken place for more than 20 years.
