Journalists, photographers and videographers from area media were given a guided tour of the Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons, Wednesday, June 10.

The tour was hosted by Lee Van Orsdel, dean of University Libraries and James Moyer, associate vice president for Facilities Planning. Representatives from SHW Group, architects, and Pioneer Construction were also available to answer questions.

Cameras clicked and video rolled as the tour group viewed the stunning rooftop garden, reading room fireplace and automatic storage retrieval system. Reporters learned not only about the many interesting construction and design features, but also how the library is a prototype for 21st century learning with many areas such as the Innovation Zone and Knowledge Marketplace.

A Community Open House is planned for September 7, from 1-5 p.m.
