Movement Science joins school symposium at arena

Grand Valley's Movement Science department joined other local businesses and organizations to host an educational expo, "Healthy Goals for Life," prior to a matinee Grand Rapids Griffins hockey game November 6 at Van Andel Arena.
 
Athletic Training faculty members taught students about the bones in the wrist and taped wrists. Mike Roskamp educated students on stimulated brain activity, and Rick Albrecht demonstrated the importance of wearing a helmet and created awareness about concussions. Ross Sherman and students displayed the varying degrees of hydration/de-hydration, and the S.P.A.R.K.L.E. bike provided students the opportunity to ride.

GVSU’s sHaPe Camp attended as well as the Momentum dance group. Other highlights included a nutritionist from Spectrum Health and E.S.C.A.P.E. Fire Safety Program.
 
About 4,000 elementary school and middle school students attended the expo and game.
