Next football game will celebrate military

Laker football will celebrate Military Appreciation Day during the game against Tiffin University at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 21, at Lubbers Stadium.

The game will be broadcast live by Comcast Local 900, with Tom Cleary and Bob Mitchell calling the action. Football players will wear special jerseys that display a branch of the U.S. military on the back.

At the game, a special tribute will be given to staff member Jeff Bromley, who died of cancer August 18. He worked in Information Technology for three years and served in the military as a member of the Navy Seal Team 8, responsible for the Mediterranean area. He fought in the U.S. American Embassy Rescue in Mogadishu, Somalia, and Operation Desert Storm, and received numerous medals for his service, including the Navy Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal.

WGVU Engage will host a Veterans Salute event in the Kelly Family Sports Center from 1-5 p.m. The free event will feature a medal of honor display of 25 West Michigan veterans, the LZ Michigan Vietnam Big Map, military vehicles, a family area and more than 90 veteran service organizations.
