Softball senior first to be player of the year twice
Laker softball player Katie Martin is the first in the country to be
named player of the year twice.
Martin, a senior infielder, was named Daktronics Inc. National
Player of the Year on May 23. She earned the same honor in 2011.
She also earned First Team All-America honors from the National
Fastpitch Coaches Association for the second time (first in 2011), the
only Grand Valley softball player ever to do so.
The NFCA is comprised of Division II coaches; the Daktronics
National Player of the Year is voted on by sports information directors.
Laker teammates Nellie Kosola and Sara Andrasik earned
All-America honorable mention.
Softball head coach Doug Woods called Martin one of the most
prolific hitters in Grand Valley softball history.
