Student group hosts week of thanks to donors

Did you know that 13,326 donors gave to Grand Valley in 2012? Or that $8.2 million in private gifts and pledges were raised in 2012?

The Future Alumni Association will host the first-ever GVS(You) Week from February 18-22 to raise awareness about donors who give to Grand Valley and how it affects the university.

“The purpose of the week is to educate students about where funding comes from that makes the university operate,” said Emma Lazzar, president of FAA. “We are celebrating and recognizing our donors as well as informing students of the importance of being connected to campus.”

During the week, posters and banners with facts about the scope of private gifts of support will adorn landmarks and buildings on the Allendale and Pew Grand Rapids campuses.

On Thursday, February 21, students can write personal thank you messages to donors for their commitment to Grand Valley. A table will be set up in the lobby of the Kirkhof Center from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Lazzar said thank you cards will be sent directly to donors.

“As a future alumna, someday my own donations will support the education of fellow Lakers and I want to help promote being a Laker for a Lifetime,” said Lazzar.
