Students celebrate ITC graduation
The cohort of students who earned Intercultural Training
Certification in the winter semester celebrated their graduation at a
reception April 23 in Lake Ontario Hall.
Anne Hiskes, dean of the Brooks College of Interdisciplinary
Studies, and Regina McClinton, director of ITC, congratulated the
students and handed out ITC pins.
The ITC was established in 2011. Completing the certification
requires only a few extra classes, including a practicum in which
students immerse themselves in a culture different from their own.
McClinton broached the idea of starting ITC because she knew it
would give students a boost on their resumes. “Employers are seeking
job candidates who possess multicultural competencies, an awareness of
people who are different from them, and the ability to engage in
respectful dialogue with different cultures,” she said.
