A Skittles sorting machine was one of many student projects displayed at the Padnos College of Engineering and Computing's Project Day.

A machine that sorts Skittles by color, an iPhone app created for the Waterfront Film Festival, and a machine that turns trash into water system components for developing countries were among projects that were part of Grand Valley's Project Day, April 18. It was hosted by the Padnos College of Engineering and Computing.

More than 120 students from schools in the Grand Rapids area attended Project Day to see nearly 40 projects by Grand Valley students and to see how engineering and computing is relevant to everyday life.

Members of a local high school FIRST Robotics team demonstrated their competitive robot at the event. The robot throws Frisbees at targets and is managed by a remote control.
