Annual Latin American Film Festival set
Grand Valley is a co-sponsor of the 5th annual Grand Rapids Latin
American Film Festival, screening more than a dozen films, from April
3-6 at Wealthy Theatre, 1130 Wealthy St. SE, Grand Rapids.
All films have English subtitles, and the entire festival is
open to the public with free admission. Festival co-sponsors also
include Aquinas College, Calvin College, Ferris State University and
Davenport University, with individual screenings sponsored by various
Consulate offices.
The festival provides the West Michigan community and students
with a unique and enriching opportunity to acquaint themselves with
the latest and most acclaimed Latin American films. Focusing on a wide
range of contemporary subjects, the films come from different
geographical areas, including Chile, México, Paraguay, Puerto Rico,
Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, República Dominicana, Bolivia and
Argentina.
Special guests on April 6 include: Bruno Irizarry, Puerto Rican
filmmaker and actor, to discuss his film 200 Letters; Laura Amelia
Guzmán, Dominican filmmaker will present her film Jean Gentil, and
Fernando Fenando Holguin (Colorado State University) will discuss the
border conflict between República Dominicana and Haití in his lecture,
“Our Neighbors, the Primitives.”
