More than 150 guests, including artists and donors, attended an Art in the Evening event May 14 at the L. William Seidman Center.

Attendees were able to view the more than 400 pieces of art in the new building and meet many of the artists who created the pieces. Henry Matthews, director of Galleries and Collections, said the art in the Seidman Center represents six different continents.

Well-known artist and Grand Valley alumnus Hubert Massey was one of the artists who attended. Massey guided students from Henry Ford Academy: School for Creative Studies in Detroit in creating a bus-sized mural that hangs above the entryway of the Seidman Center.

Matthews said, in all, there are 12,000 works of art on Grand Valley’s campuses and centers.
