Cook Carillon turns blue
The Cook Carillon Tower on the Allendale Campus will turn blue, as
Grand Valley participates in “Light It Up Blue” for autism awareness.
Across the nation, buildings are being lighted in blue during
the evening hours of April 2 to mark World Autism Awareness Day and
the kick-off to Autism Awareness Month. World Autism Awareness Day was
adopted by the United Nations in 2007 to show that autism is a growing
global health crisis.
Campus Links and Students Toward Autism Advocacy & Respect
worked with Facilities Services to arrange blue lighting for the clock tower.
Grand Valley’s Autism Education Center runs The Statewide Autism
Resources and Training (START) Project, funded by the Michigan
Department of Education and Office of Special Education to provide
training and technical assistance to educators in Michigan that serve
students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
In 2001, Grand Valley was designated by the Michigan Department
of Education as the lead university in the development of resources
and training for school personnel and parents of children with autism.
