Area emergency medical staff members will provide insight into West Michigan disaster preparedness and discuss this year's Community Reading Project, "Five Days at Memorial."
The panel presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the DeVos Center, Loosemore Auditorium.
The book by Sheri Fink details the days at Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans during and after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Panelists are Karla Black, Kent County Health Department; Julie Bulson, Spectrum Health; Todd Chassee, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine; Jamie Crouch, Metro Health; Mark Iverson, Mercy Health Saint Mary’s; Jack Stewart, Kent County emergency management coordinator; and Mark Van Dyke, Spectrum Health.
Brian Jbara, director of Integrative Learning, said panelists will discuss what goes into an emergency plan and what West Michigan agencies have done to ensure preparedness for local disasters.
