President Thomas J. Haas joined area college presidents at an event May 6 to celebrate Grand Rapids Community Foundation’s Challenge Scholars program.

Grand Valley has been a partner of the program since it launched two years ago. It provides students academic and college readiness support from sixth grade through high school and college scholarship opportunities. Last fall, the university created a new scholarship for GRPS students in the program, offering them the opportunity to attend and succeed in college.

The event took place at the Ford Fieldhouse at Grand Rapids Community College. Challenge Scholars students and their families, teachers, community donors and supporters were recognized. Presidents from Aquinas College, GRCC and Ferris State University were in attendance.
