GVSU Science Olympiad celebrates 30 years
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Michigan Science
Olympiad Regional Tournament at Grand Valley State University.
What began as a few tournaments in Michigan and Delaware has
grown into a nationwide program with competitions in all 50 states.
The focus of the Science Olympiad has remained relevant to today’s
need to attract more students into the science, technology,
engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.
This year’s theme is Bridge to the Future. Students from 66
teams will be competing from 42 middle schools and 24 high schools
from Kent and Ottawa counties. The tournament consists of events in
biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, computers and technology.
These events are a mixture of academic, engineering and design challenges.
