GVS(You) Week will celebrate giving
From February 17-21, students across campus can celebrate the
thousands of donors, including alumni and current students, who
support and give to Grand Valley every year.
The Future Alumni Association will host the second annual
GVS(You) Week to raise awareness about donors. Last year, nearly
16,000 people donated to the university.
“The week was created as a fun way for students to learn about
the importance of donating to our university,” said Emma Lazzar,
president of FAA. “Students can share appreciation with private donors
for their continued dedication and involvement in Grand Valley’s future.”
During the week, posters and banners with facts about the scope
of private gifts of support will adorn landmarks and buildings on the
Allendale and Pew Grand Rapids campuses. The week will kick off with a
Hot Chocolate Social at the Cook Carillon Tower from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
on Tuesday, February 18.
On February 19 and 20, from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., students can write
personal messages, thanking donors for their commitment to Grand
Valley. A table will be set up in the lobby of the Kirkhof Center
February 19 and in the DeVos Center February 20. The thank you notes
will be sent directly to donors.
Throughout the week, students can win prizes by using the hashtag
#Laker4aLifetime
on Twitter whenever they spot a GVS(You) poster or banner on campus.
Lazzar said the goal is to spread awareness and show students
what it means to be a Laker for a Lifetime. “They can do this by
sharing their time and talents through events like Community Outreach
Week or with their treasure by taking advantage of the T. Haas
Challenge and supporting future Lakers with the Student Legacy
Scholarship Fund,” she said.
