Local professionals help students transition to post-graduate life
Students are invited to attend the second annual Student to
Professional Conference to hear from local employers and Grand Valley
alumni and Career Center staff on how to make a smooth transition into
professional life after graduation.
The conference will take place Friday, January 24, from 9
a.m.-3:30 p.m. in the Grand River Room of the Kirkhof Center. Those
who attend will learn tips on how to market themselves, plan for their
dream job, tailor their resume and interview successfully.
The conference will feature guest speakers, resume workshops, a
networking social and complimentary breakfast and lunch. Sessions will
feature topics such as “The Art of Interviewing,” “Generations in the
Workplace,” and “How to Discover and Brand Yourself.”
Students will also have the opportunity to network with
representatives from university departments, local employers and
organizations including Grand Rapids Young Professionals, Hello West
Michigan and Young Nonprofit Professional Network.
This year’s conference is sponsored by Amway and is a
collaborative effort between the Career Center, Office of
Multicultural Affairs and Alumni Association.
Students of all ages and majors are invited to attend the full
conference or stop in for sessions throughout the day. Both individual
and student organization volunteers are also needed. There is no cost
to attend but registration is required.
